Worrying Symptoms but No Pain...

This is my first time posting and I am writing on behalf of my dear mum who was taken to A & E on Friday evening.

She has some worrying symptoms and I was wondering if anyone else out there had some experience of the same symptoms and what was your outcome/diagnosis.

Mum is 75 and I would say in good health, although she did have cancer on her lip around 6 years ago, which was surgically removed and no other treatment and was given the all clear.

She was on holiday in Portugal when these symptoms started and was putting on a brave face. (The Jaundice only started on the taxi home in the uk)

- Nausea (this lasted around 4 days and was unable to eat much at all)

- Severe itching all over, iterally everywhere, drving her crazy, unable to rest or sleep

- Dark Urine ( like cola)

- Yellow Stools

- Jaundice (yellow skin and whites of eyes)

- No appetite but is eating well when she allowed to.

- No Pain at all

When I saw my mum I couldn't help but feel upset and concerned for her and us, so scared she has Pancreatic Cancer as this is what her Dad looked like before he passed away.

Mum arrived at hosptial Friday evening (13th May 2022)

On arrival had blood tests, various other tests, physical exam and CT Scan. She is currently on an antibiotic drip and having antihistamine every 4 hours. She had an MRI yesterday afternoon and has been told if they can't find what they are looking for (Gallstones or obvious blockage) she will be moved to another department. Its all a bit vague and Mum is not the sort to ask questions and often can't take in all the doctors are saying and of course is alone when they do their morning rounds giving updates.

After seeing her yesterday (Sunday 15th) I am hopeful this may not be Cancer now as she seems perfectly well apart from Jaundice and the itching, which hasn't really changed. I am also thinking that Cancer would of been picked up by now if it was that on the CT scan. Or are they waiting on the MRI because they did see a tumour and are trying the see if it has spread.

I don't know whether this is relevant or not but she had COVID before all this started and was wondering if there was a link with potential Liver damage or Hepatitis. She was also prescribed Statins about a month prior and wondered if there was a connetion, she stopped taking them on holiday as she tought they may of been the cause.

Any help or advice will be much appeciate, thank you in advance.

  • Hi Bailey68,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your mum and I can understand this must be concerning, especially with the uncertainty and waiting for further results.

It's very hard to advise on what the issue may be, but it's good to hear that they have done a number of tests and that it shouldn't be too much longer before you get the information you need.

Keep speaking to her doctor/specialist at any opportunities with any questions you have.

In the meantime I hope this forum can be a support to you.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
