Lymph nodes

I've been back and forth for around 9 months now about an enlarged lymph node that won't go down. I have persistent fatigue and infections, and I had Epstein- Barr back in 2019 so we were concerned about lymphoma. Blood cancer is in the family so I know that I'm a little more paranoid, but very few tests have been done and they want to discharge me. They've done bloods which originally came back with very low WBC count but as soon as they were back up to 3 ish they've said its fine. They've done an ultrasounds which came back "not normal but not abnormal" but they don't want to do a biopsy because its hard to get to and might affect the muscles in my face. I just don't know what to do, obviously I want it to be fine but I just don't feel like there's any evidence and they haven't come up with any explanation for my symptoms. I don't know if I should push for a biopsy?

  • Hello Elaine and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms and that you don't have any concrete answers to what's causing them. This must be really frustrating, especially when your mind's not at ease with the outcomes so far.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and suggestions to you soon but in the meantime, you could try seeing another GP or specialist for a second opinion. You can find out more just here.

I hope this helps but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards,

  • Hiya, sorry to hear about your situation. I'm also having problems with swollen lymph nodes and lymphoma runs in my family.
push for what you need. Ultimately you won't rest easy til you know one way or the other. It's great that they're not concerned as if they were you'd know about it but equally the only way to tell if it's a problem is to biopsy it. Don't be afraid to tell your Dr or consultant that is what you need and that's a choice you're willing to make. Good luck xx
