Bleeding and pregnancy after LLETZ

Hi all, I'm so confused at the moment. I had LLETZ treatment for CIN3 on 7th April. The procedure was ok and I felt fine. A couple of days after the treatment I started bleeding which I know is normal. It was exactly like my usual period. 3 weeks after the procedure around 28th April I had some PMS symptoms which I thought was my usual period, and so the bleeding continued. It didn't really change at all except for those symptoms. 4.5 weeks after the treatment I was starting to worry so I called the colposcopy ward and got an emergency appointment with a geanocologist. The morning of my appointment I decided to do a pregnancy test, not sure why really, but it was positive, two tests later I have 3 positive results. I explained all this at my appointment and the doctor examined me and said my treatment site looked sore and was infact bleeding, so I was prescribed antibiotics. She made a comment about the cervix being closed but advised we can't tell if the pregnancy is viable at this stage and it's too early to scan. Anyway, I'm booked in for a scan in two weeks and estimate I'll be about 7.5 weeks pregnant by then. We go on holiday in two days and I'm just left in this torment of whether some of the bleeding was a miscarriage or result of LLETZ. It never changed and the bleeding has now stopped 5 weeks post treatment. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? Is it unlikely to bleed for 5 weeks purely because of LLETZ?

  • Hi Sarah_B and welcome to the forum.

I'm really sorry to read your post and for the limbo you've been left in.

This must be very difficult but the good thing is you have the scan coming up which will hopefully be able to give you some insight and answers in to what's going on.

I'm sure some of our members who have encountered similar issues will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime, I hope you're able to enjoy your holiday and all goes well in two weeks time.

If you'd like to discuss any of this with one of our cancer nurses when you get back from your holiday, they'll be available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
