MRI after inconclusive core biopsy - is that usual procedure

Hi everyone

I received inconclusive results from a core biopsy done on 2 small lumps in the axillary area. They know want to do another biopsy but also MRI and CT scan. Is this normal procedure?

i am terrified that MRI scan is a really bad sign and I have been trying to look it up but there is not much out there

Thank you

  • Hello Jukebox1014,

I am not sure myself whether this is standard procedure but it looks like having received inconclusive results, they want to dig a little bit deeper and do another biopsy and have a closer look via the MRI and CT scans.

Having to do an MRI scan is not necessarily a bad sign; it is a great diagnostic tool which will help shed some light on what is going on. There is information on our website on what it is like to have an MRI scan and I hope that it will help you prepare for the test.

I hope that you will hear from other members of the forum who have been in a similar situation and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Everything crossed for you for reassuring results!

    Best wishes,
