Just wondering what the  treatment for DCIS is?

The primary treatment is surgery. Either lumpectomy or mastectomy (if there is a very large amount of DCIS).

DCIS has three grades - low, intermediate, and high. If low/intermediate then likely no further treatment needed. If high then the standard is to offer radiation.

Mine was initially thought to be intermediate but they found high after my surgery so I will be having radiation. Not sure how many sessions yet - have a meeting with the oncologist on Thursday!

I believe some people might be recommended hormone therapy too but my consultant said I don't need it. I'm pleased about that cos don't fancy being plunged into early menopause haha!!

Just got my results. Both left and right breasts benign!  Microcalcifications are a bit of ductal ectasia (totally ok) and left breast a fibroadenoma.  Just want those panicking about microcalcifications to know that they can turn out benign. Now for breakfast - so far only had a shot of brandy to wait for my phonecall!
