What is the longest anyone has waited for diagnosis?

Here I am again, bothering you all with questions, whilst waiting, waiting and waiting some more for final diagnosis on Lenny the lump, who was removed 1st April. (April fools day - bit ironic). It doesn't seem as straight forward as I would have hoped, apparently after 4 weeks sitting in the local path lab my sample has been moved elsewhere, not sure if it's a 1st or 2nd opinion, if it's a 2nd opinion, I guess it's not a straight forward diagnosis. If it's a first opinion, then why wait so long! I asked a friend who had a melanoma removed this year in the same local hospital, he said he had his results in 8 weeks, but he was told it was a melanoma before it was removed. My lump is a lump of unknown lumpiness (was a buttock lump - so not standard to start with). The admin at my local hospital is keeping an eye open for when the results do finally appear (she's a star) So whilst I carry on trying to distract myself thinkng what the beep is going on - has anyone taken weeks to get their final diagnosis?

  • Hope they got back to you at some point [@Songbird68]‍ and that it was good news. Just read your last post - what a farce! How could they talk to you as if you were being unreasonable to want your results after such a long and stressful wait?? I really hope it's all resolved by now anyway.

  • Hi Crow,

I did finally get a diagnosis - I was given the path lab report. It was full of damaged tissue and cells but not cancerous.  Better out than in I would say. It did say there were inflammatory tissues - so it explains why it was causing me problems.  I hope you are recovering well xx

  • Oh thank goodness - I was half expecting you to reply and say they still hadn't told you! Glad it wasn't anything more sinister but yes, sounds like something you'd rather not have remain as a part of your body. I'm doing okay thanks, still having treatment until May - it's a bit of a long slog tbh, but I think the worst parts are done. Will be taking medication for 5 years too but that's just a tablet at home, won't require going in to hospital - can't wait!

  • Hi Crow.

I'm glad you are recovering well. Having treatment and taking tablets are a small price to pay to get rid of such a nasty thing like cancer. I can't talk from personal experience,  it's only been people who I am close to.  You are a fighter and I am so proud of you!
