Skin biopsy result question - re who can see the result

Hi I had a roughly 12mm report says epidermal polypoid x 2 on breast area removed after breast surgeon who was going to mammogram me as could feel lymph node in armpit and took one look at my moles and said they need to come off ... this was 4 weeks ago the derm said 2-3 weeks for results (I am also genetically down as having FAP) / poss garnders whole other subject lol

Anyway I called my Dr's and asked if anything back 2 weeks, after procedure was told no and they would hear same time as me by letter,

I called today as its 4 weeks now and that's what my discharge instructions say ... u have to call in avo for test results... I did this and have been told there is a,letter but dated 21 so 10 days, after procedure but she can't open it only a Dr can so I have to call back in morning as no appointments left today

So I said maybe that's, just the letter they sent to say I had it done I'll leave it a bit longer

She said no call in morning I think there are results here I just cant see, them??

That normal if its all clear? Thanks

Editing to say my surgery is quite insistent you don't call for results in morning so now I'm thinking it's odd

  • Hi Heyjude,

You will probably need to ring first thing to get the appointment to get your results. My GPs is the same with ringing for results in the afternoon too, I think it's just because the mornings are usually filled with people calling in for appointments and meds etc. The test results need to be checked and signed off, so that their admin can (if classed as normal results) tell patients rather than speaking to the GP. In your case the GP would be more likely to speak to you as a mole removal it isn't like a standard blood test result.

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow and you find out what's going on. Good luck!

  • Thank you I called only to be told they aren't back ... its 4weeks 1 day and yesterday they said they were so I'm confused now guess I just have to wait a bit longer and hopefully no news is good news x

  • Hi Heyjude,

I should have mentioned my friend waited 8 weeks to get his results from mole removal. Certain results take a lot longer than others. It's not great for those who are waiting. Noone should have to wait more than 4 weeks for any results to be honest, but the medics would probably argue that the results given need to be checked, double checked and correct before given to the patient.
