Swollen collarbone and glands

Hi everyone.

Last October, I noticed I had an extremely stiff neck and swollen glands, in the end it turned out to be tonsillitis and it went away. However I've noticed my lymph nodes have started to swell a lot more than they used to and I have had on and off neck and shoulder pain.

I started feeling not too well at the start of April and had flu like symptoms which continued for a few weeks, I struggle a lot with allergies and sinus infections, so I just assumed that this was the cause, and my glands on my neck, groin and armpit had swelled up and felt tender, since then they seem to have gone down a bit and don't hurt as much. However I noticed yesterday that my right collarbone feels swollen. It's not a round lump but the it feels a bit lumpier than my other side and I definitely didn't have this before.

I have bad anxiety about health related issues, especially as my mum passed of breast cancer a few years ago. I shouldn't of googled it, because I've seen so many articles about how a lump or swollen collarbone must mean cancer! I'm 26, so terrified in case I've got it just when my life is coming together. I'm going to phone my gp and try get an appointment, but just wondering if anyone has had the same thing and what their experience was? Thank you!

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Rj96 although I'm sorry to hear about the symptoms you've been experiencing and for the worry they are causing.

Our minds seem to have a tendency to think the worst in these situations, especially when we've lost loved ones to cancer or tried to find answers online, but try not to let your mind run away with you if you can. Easier said than done I know, but you're doing the right thing by contacting your GP and I hope you've managed to get an appointment since making this post.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but in the meantime, we'll have our fingers crossed your doctor will be able to tell you that this isn't any cause for concern.

    Kind regards,
