Scared about polyp results

Hi, I posted a little while ago about experiencing symptoms that I was waiting to have investigated (pain, bowel changes and bleeding after a bowel movement)

Yesterday I had my colonoscopy, initially I felt content that nothing major was seen however after reading the report I am now feeling so anxious about the finding of polyps.

The report reads as follows-

Anus: There were second degree hemorrhoids (which prolapse and reduce
spontaneously) in the anal canal.
Colon. Polyps - see Polyp Findings. (1 polyps seen).
Terminal Ileum: The terminal ileum was normal.
Polyps Findings
Several Polyps identified in the ascending colon: Type = Sessile, sizes several polys
between 2- 4 mm, avulsed using cold biopsy., (completed removed), retrieved.

I am now so worked up that my initial feeling of reassurance was silly and probably due to the lasting effect of the sedation and in fact I still have cause to worry.

  • Hi

I have coloniscopies every 2 years due to family history of bowel cancer. Finding polyps isn't at all uncommon. They aren't cancer ((although cancer can start in polyps which is why they try to remove the ones they found). It sounds like they were able to remove the ones they found too, so that's an added bonus.

I'm not at all medical but from having lots of colonoscopies, your report sounds good .

  • Hi,

Thank you for replying I really appreciate it.  I feel silly that I didn't ask the consultant more after the colonoscopy yesterday, then I tried to Google the answer to my questions and scared myself.

  • Don't feel silly. It can feel a bit blurry after the sedation anyway.

I had several polyps removed last time and convinced myself, watching the screen as they were doing it, that it was something much worse. I like that they give you the report on the day though so you can re-read it when you're more clear headed.
