Strange situation

I have suffered with fatigue for years. I have had ibs symptoms for years. I had a recent full blood test and all the other bloods done. My vit D showed low but that was it. I then had calprotectin test and my calprotectin was normal. My FIT test was negative. My rectal exam was normal. But they still put in urgent referral. I have lost weight deliberately, I cut out all Red meat from December and all milk products Jan/Feb. My diet has considerably changed to a healthier diet. I did however have a bum bleed probably from a binge that caused inflammation and constipation  not major but it has happened a few times. I poop 3 times a day but with milk 6 or 7 times a day. I have packed in the drink. Is an urgent referral necessary? I usually get a dry bum from over wiping. I sometimes get incomplete evacuation and I sometimes get thin stools but they always return to normal. Thanks

  • An urgent referral is a good thing. It means you will know what is going on sooner. It doesn't mean they think it is cancer, just that it is a (slight) possibility and getting it done as soon as possible will mean you have less time to worry, asuming everything is OK (as it probably is) and in the off-chance that it's not, you'll get treated sooner and that is true regardless of what is wrong, if it is something that needs treatment.

  • Thanks for replying. Thank you for the advice also. I've had problems for years but they have never sent me for gastro investigations. Just this all of a sudden.
