Ultrasound wait time?

My GP has sent off a request for an ultrasound for me for persistent mild pain in my lower right abdomen. I have had a large ovarian cyst removed about 9 years and I am wondering if it is a cyst again. But I'm worrying about ovarian cancer (even though I think it very unlikely).

Is there any rough idea of how long it will be for the scan?

I did ask the GP but it was a phone appointment, not a great line and I couldn't understand everything she said except the last word was "weeks" - but that could 2 weeks or 20 weeks.

I'm getting myself a bit worked up that it might be something that it most probably isn't.

As an aside I have colonoscopies every 2 years due to family history of bowel cancer which might (but not confirmed to be) Lynch Syndrome. I know in some lynch syndrome there's an increased risk of gynae cancers too.

(I'm in my early 40s and not gone through menopause)

  • Hi there,

I have been referring for a scan also as having intense pelvic pain, nausea at times, lower back pain etc. I have been to a&e twice and end up being sent away with codeine after 4 hours as they won't scan you there. My doc made the scan referral nearly 3 weeks ago and I've just got appointment for 15th May so nearly 5 weeks painful wait. This is in the north east of England.

I hope you hear about your scan soon!

    Lou

  • Thanks for the reply. Sorry you've been waiting so long though. Your symptoms sound much more significant than mine too. Good luck for the scan

Last time I had ovarian cysts it was picked up during pregnancy so  a different situation

  • I was told that GP's have a strict referral criteria for the 2 week wait for scans and as my CA125 blood test results came back within the normal range maybe I didn't qualify.

If a private scan wasn't so expensive I think I would pay!
