MDS

I had non Hodgkin's lymphoma six years ago, treated with 3 rounds of R-chop chemo and 27 days of radiotherapy. I thought everything was going well until a routine blood test showed that I had enlarged red blood cells. Blood tests didn't give any reason why this was the case, I was referred back to the haematologist that I was under before. She has sent me for blood tests for 18 different things and I have now read that having had R-chop, being 69 years old and having aching in one of my shins there's a good chance that I have MDS. I have another appointment to see her in about seven weeks and I am terrified.

  • Hello JoyKF

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns which have now seen you referred back to the hematologist. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what may be causing these abnormal blood test results.

We know that waiting for appointments and results can be a really difficult time for many people. Lots of our members here have found it helpful to talk to someone about their concerns and fears and I wonder if you might find it useful to chat with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment with the Consultant? I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support that they can as well as help you think about the types of questions you may want to ask when you see the specialist. If you'd like to chat with them they're back in the office tomorrow on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9 am to 5 pm).

Keep in touch with us here on the forum over the next few weeks. Let us know how you're getting on and hopefully when you do see the Consultant they will be able to give you some answers and reassurance.

    Best wishes,
