Multiples and matted lymph nodes do not always mean cancer.

Hi,

I just wanted to post this message to give a bit of reassurance as I myself spent hours going through this forum to ease my worries.

First of all I want to clarify that I am not medically trained and if you feel enlarged lymph nodes for more than 2 weeks it's better to have them checked out by a professional.

That being said, I had and still have 3 swoen lymph nodes under both armpits, two in the back of my neck and 2 palpable in front of my neck.

2 of them under my armpits actually felt connected ( matted) and I was really worried assuming the worst. I went to my Gp who did a 2ww referral to the breast clinic and 2 other regulars referral for the ones in my neck.

Although the maximum waiting time was 2 weeks I was told that due to the current backlog the breast clinic won't be able to see me before at least 6 weeks.

I started worrying,  lost 8 kg in two weeks, imagining the worst. At some point because my heath especially mental was declining,  my husband and I decided to go private and I had an ultrasound for both my breast and armpit which came back clear.

The brain is a powerful tool it can make you think and actually thing this that are not necessarily present.  I started to doubt if the sonographer got it right, if he actually checked everything correctly.  So I decided to pay again at a top private breast clinic to make sure of it. Obviously it was stupid but the same findings. All clear

The breast consultant and sonographer actually told me that was I thought were enlarged lymph nodes were actually normal' ones and I was maybe able to feel them because I was quite skinny. I actually weight 47 kg for 160cm.

In the meantime I got private health insurance with my work so was able to get a private ultrasound on the ones in my neck which also came back clear.

I still have to see an Ent because of my persistent sore throat but what I mean is we might think that the odds are against us and everything turning up to be fine.

Hope this message will help put some of you at ease.

Xo

  • Hiya, thanks for taking the time to write this post - I think it's exactly what I needed to hear this week. I've had similar to you (enlarged and palpable lymph nodes in similar areas) but since I have a history of cancer, my health anxiety is in overdrive. I'm finding extended waiting times through my usual hospital too, so like yourself, will also be getting a private ultrasound at some point (hopefully sooner rather than later). Here's to hoping our respective medical teams get to the bottom of our respective health issues! x

  • Hi,

    No worries, happy to help.

I remember how nervous I was and extremely frustrated to follow posts and not seeing any update about the situation.

I do hope the outcome will be similar to mine and I will pray for you!

    Take good care of yourself
