Waiting for prostate biopsies results

Following high PSA levels I was referred for an MRI followed by biopsies for two areas of concern in the prostate all within two weeks. The consultant said I would receive a results appointment in 3 weeks, however I am now told that it will be 3 - 4 weeks before the histology is reported and then a clinic space for an appointment has to be found so it could be maybe 6 weeks or more. Is this length of time normal for NHS? I am told by my "Uro-Oncology Cancer Pathway Navigator" that there are unprecedented numbers of patients following the current prostate cancer campaign.

Hi, I have just been through targeted biopsies 4 weeks ago under a general anaesthetic. I received my diagnosis within that 4 week period and in my case I received a Gleason score of 6, meaning low risk adenocarcinoma. I wasn't told of any delays, so you should be fine and good luck with your diagnosis. I have opted for Active Surveilance with PSA checks every 6 months and an MRI in 12-18 months.

Thank you acegeezer for your reply. To elaborate on my original post: my PSA results were 13.85 followed by 10.83. I'm just concerned about the wait for the biopsy results.

I know the feeling I was the same but my diagnosis came within the 4 week window I was told to expect, the trouble is not all areas are the same. My area was also busy, so they telephoned me with my result. Perhaps you could ask for the same, it would alleviate their face to face time.
