Sore Throat for well over two years

Hello -  I hope someone can help me please...I'm worried sick at the moment.

During the Xmas period of 2020, I woke up with a terribe sore throat. I had a telephone consultation with a GP who prescribe two weeks of antibiotics. The sore throat pain went away, the redness was still there - but no pain

I went back to the GP Sept 2021 after suffering varios bouts of sore throats ( I could only get a telephone appoitment with a nurse) she did a throat swob and blood tests. Both came back normal.

Again the sore thoat went away (still redness persisted), so  I saw my GP in December 2021 who looked in my throat and said she couldn't see anything wrong but gave me some anti-acids as she thought it might be silent reflux. But they had no effect at all. After taking the course the sore throat went away, although the back of my throat still looked red and the Uvula had red speckles on it.

Last week I had a telephone consultation with my GP who prescribed another course of antibiotics. I have just finished them, sadly the soreness is still there and the redness around my Uvula is still there. I decided I had had enough and telephone my GP and asked to see an ENT. I have decided to pay for it myself and I have an appointment this Friday at noon.

I stupidly Googled my symptoms and now I'm firghtened  out of my mind with worry. If I get a cancer diagnosis, I know I will blame myself for not insisting I saw an ENT sooner.

Is anyone out there in a similar position?

I have a very important interview tomorrow and I can't get my thoughts together - I'm just a puddle of mess and my husband is currently away on business.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

  • Oh this sounds so familiar. I've had sore throats on and off for well over a year now. It comes and goes but always seems to come back. It doesn't hurt when I swallow but just feels like the whole inside of my neck is uncomfortable. I've thought it might be reflux but antacids don't seem to make much difference. At the moment it seems to be in combination with a really tight chest and ringing ears. Like you I've scared myself by looking up symptoms. I had GP appointments last summer but didn't really get very far and it seemed to settle before we reached any conclusion. It's particularly bad at the moment and I've managed to get an appointment but not for almost 2 weeks so the waiting isn't fun.

  • Hello CLH72

Thank you for your response - trust me, it is much appreciated

I think I'm just going to keep myself busy housework until Friday, when I have the appointment .at mid day It's just really hard when you are on your own and "what if's" thoughts keep coming back. I'm probably my onw worst enemy and should really think positive thoughts.

I'll defintely pop back on Friday to let you know how I got on.

    Take care for now

  • Hey FunnyLady

Hoping that your appointment was helpful. Think I'm going to try the GP again tomorrow on the off-chance that there are any appointments available.

  • Wondering if thr ENT appointment was helpful FunnyLady. I have *another* GP appointment this week when I'm going to push for an ENT referral, but also wondering about an initial private appointment just for peace of mind. Thinking positively about this is hard....

  • It's so awful and upsetting when you have to push so hard to be seen at ENT I'm just awaiting a diagnosis now following tests and I'm scared stiff xxx
