Very high CA125 levels

I'm just looking for some experiences with this, or people who have had this and turned out to be nothing. I've been having some symptoms for about 8 weeks now, constant bloating mainly, along with an increase in tiredness and some tenderness in my lower left tummy.

I had bloods taken last week which have come back showing I am anaemic, have raised platelets and my CA125 level is 420. I have been referred to be seen by gynae for a scan within 2 weeks but I am absolutely terrified. The last few days I've had stabbing pains in my tummy and also some tenderness below my ribs like when I was heavily pregnant. The bloating is not that extreme, but noticeable and I've gained 5lb.

I am 36, with 5 children and normal cycles/flow so am really unsure if fibroids are an option. The GP was so lovely with me which raised alarms bells as they're usually quite brusque, and said that it could possibly still be a cyst but this needed urgent investigation.

I'm so worried now. Please tell me of your experiences with this, and what happened in the end (what treatment or outlook you had etc). Thank you!

  • Hi Kay, my experiences have been similar to yours and my symptoms are the same. I had a private scan 6 weeks ago (I couldn't wait for the long referral) which showed an irregular cyst on my left ovary, a follow up scan last Friday showed it had resolved itself so I didn't think much of it. I did mention it to my GP yesterday though thought she might give me antibiotics for the other symptoms (bloating etc) considering I know it's a cyst but instead she booked me in for a CA125 test and referred me to gyne for another scan? She said the last two times she's seen me I've had traces blood in my urine and my tummy is tender but I have no signs of infection so she wants to rule things out. But I'm a bit scared of the result, do you mind me asking how long your blood tests took to come back? Much of my pain is on the left side too, I have two kids and normal cycles otherwise x

  • My bloods were done on the Tuesday and the GP had results by Thursday. She didn't phone me until the following Tuesday though but had referred immediately.
