Red cervix

Hi I'm looking for advice or even just reassurance I feel bad to be here when others are going through such a hard time so I apologise for that.

For the last few months I had been having issues with my periods. I had been spotting after sex and my periods were either coming really late or lasting for around 10 days.

Around 10 days before my most recent period was due I started with light bleeding which then turned into a lot of clots passing. I contacted my gp as the bleeding wouldn't stopped and was given some hormone medication to force it to stop. I also suffer with bad bloating and a heavy pain in my lower stomach.

I was booked in for an internal exam and after seeing my cervix she kept asking about when I last had a smear which was almost 3 years ago and then mentioned a colposcopy and went for a second opinion.

She referred me for an ultrasound but said they would wait before referring to colposcopy she said I could get my swab results today and they've now said there was a lab error and it will need to be re done Monday.

I've been panicking for days and now I'm just panicking even more since them saying about the lab error I just hoped to hear someone who has been through a similar thing or something

  • Hello kristy91 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear about these issues you've had with your periods. You did well to contact your GP and  have this looked into. I can completely understand why being told there was a lab error was a source of anxiety but try not to read anything into this; lab errors do happen from time to time and all you need to do for now is get the test done again on Monday.

I hope that you won't need to wait too long for your results and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. Waiting for results is often described here as the hardest thing and one day can feel like a lifetime. It won't be long now though until you get some definite answers. There are some helpful tips on this page on how to cope with waiting for important news which I hope you will find useful.

Hopefully you will hear from others on the forum who have been through this before and they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine for you.

    Best wishes,
