Need someone to talk to.

Hi

I am a usually fit and healthy 35 year old female.

I had covid late March. I didn't suffer so bad. Just had the usual symptoms and dizzy spells.

1 week after recocery, I suffered a headache, which after a few days of some nausea accompanied with ear pain disappeared. It later turned out I had tonsillitis. This cleared up with antibiotics.

However, a week later on Sunday the headache returned. It wasn't excrutiating in any way, but I could feel a pain at the top of my head. I haven't had to take much pain relief for these headaches. This pain comes and goes. Accompanied with this is the feeling of imbalance and disorientation. My ears have ached at times. At times I just don't feel like myself.

I have been to the docs and they said it sounded like vertigo. My blood pressure has been high 150/86 and low is 132 etc. I have had tingling sensations in my head, arms and legs. Most have been on my right side but some on my left.

My vision is fine and has been recently checked by opticians. My bloods are being checked too.

I'm unsure and I'm just wondering if this sounds like something I should go back to the doctors for?  Or am I being anxious?

I'm worried but I don't want to over worry as it is seeming to effect my blood pressure.

Any talk will be helpful as I'm feeling pretty scared and lonely.

  • Hi. I have no particular insight here, but seeing the title of the thread, I had to respond. Generally, if you are concerned, it's a good idea to have your doctor check things out. That doesn't mean this is likely to be anything serious. It probably isn't. It's possible it could even be caused by your blood pressure? But you have nothing to lose by getting it checked out and it will probably give you some reassurance.

  • Thanks for replying. I'm feeling so scared and ill with worry.

Google definitely doesn't help. But, I've got 2 girls at home that I desperately love more than anything and want to know what's going on with me.

The *** sensations in both my legs and in one arm have come about since being at the doctors last week. Not even aware if blood pressure can do this?

The doctor seems to think I have vertigo and has told me to blow my ears. I've done this several times and it has worked in that I don't feel constantly funny now.

Just don't know what I can do so I can eliminate the possibility of a tumour in my brain or something. The only route seems an mri. I don't think they will consider doing this for me.

  • Hello Jet111,

its human nature that worry always leads us to the worst possible health scenario,so its understandable where you are coming from.l think the two things l picked up from your post is that you had covid 4-5 weeks ago,and that one of its effects was dizzyness. Whilst stating that you made a quick recovery,l wonder if you are playing down the residual side effects of Covid.Certainly it can linger and trigger marginal issues within your body as your immune system takes a pounding.

l think you are on the money with your view of stress raising your blood pressure, this could certainly lead to headaches. For most people stress manifests itself in head or gut,and most do not give stress the importance it demands for creating serious secondary issues.

My feeling is that your covid recovery could well be more significant than you realise and that l would give yourself a little while longer, preferably with your focus elsewhere to see if this resolves itself. If after that the problems remain then a visit to the doctor demonstrating distance from covid infection should discount that possibility and focus on other areas.

Hope things improve for you over the coming weeks,

                                                                                            David

  • This is true. You make such good points. The stress is definitely making things worse for me. My head is all over the place and I almost keep looking for other symptoms associated with brain problems.

It could be covid. But, I did not think I could be this bad after covid given my credentials. I will wait for blood work to come back and will speak to doctors this week if things do not improve. I am unsure what they will suggest. And the thought of an mri scares me.

Thanks for messaging me. I really appreciate it.

  • I think virtually anybody can have a bad experience of/after covid. Some people are more susceptible, of course, but young, healthy people have developed long covid and elderly people with co-existing conditions have been completely asymptomatic. I think there have also been people who had very mild symptoms initally, but developed long covid.

  • Hello Jet111,

susceptability to a virus is not nessacerily linked to percieved fitness.Indeed working with animals its very often the fittest that have had very little challenges in life, that succumb first and the hardest, whilst those that have had a hard time previously are somewhat more tougher in shrugging off the invader. Some of this might well point to a heightened immune system and mental toughness from previous episodes.

As the recipient of several MRI scans l have to say l found it to be no problem at all.You are not entering a sealed tomb, its open at both ends and rather like lying in bed under a low bridge with some noisy toad banging away.l use the opportunity to switch off and focus on something l never normally find the time for.

Years back l woke up with a really sore chest and was in excrutiating pain from even trying to breathe shallow.Standing ,walking or slightly moving was horrendous.Went to the doctors thinking the worst, and he was not sure and grudgingly it seemed gave me a sick note, even though l had not asked for one..Went back the next day even worse, and fortunately bumped into my own doctor in the corridoor on the way out from seeing the first again, and buttonholed him.He went in to discuss me with his colleague and left the door ajar, and was basically told there was nothing wrong with me and l was swinging the lead for some time off work.Thankfully my doc knew me well from over the years and realised l had a big problem.l had fallen off the top of a stack of basles onto the trailer l was loading some way below, two days before any symptoms.Brushed myself down and after giving myself 5 minutes carried on with no subsequent pain.Turned out that my chest muscles had gone into major spasm 36 hours later and had locked solid allowing no movement of my diaphragm. Here was l and those around me thinking heart problems and all sorts. of major crisis. A muscle relaxant jab and l was back into work that dinnertime and had the satisfaction of calling in to see the original doctor the following evening to get signed off,and pointed out it was not that days date but the previous one, with the comment that hopefully his skills in spotting malingerers would have been brushed up upon.Just shows that often the problem is so obvious its too difficult to spot.l should say that l raced motercycles and taking falls was common enough to only remember the ones that hurt a few hours later

Hopefully your bloods will come back fine and time will prove to be your healer, but do keep us informed as to your progress even if it resolves. IIs good for others using this site to read that not every post ends in problems,

                                                    david

  • Thank you lovely. So glad to hear you came out the other end okay!

I am more concerned with what they might find in an mri. I don't think my doctors think I'm severe enough to warrant one. But, I can tell something is off with me. You could be right and it could be time is a good healer.

I will definitely keep you posted!

  • Hi there

Just wanted to update on my situation. After a solid week of being very ill with vertigo, headaches, nausea, pains in legs and some left eye pain, brain fog and some shaking. I was told to have a ct scan.

They ran blood tests etc and found no abnormalities. Ct scan was clear thankfully too. Due to covid starting about a month ago, they are putting my symptoms down to long covid and nothing sinister as nothing was found on the scan.

My vertigo has eased since and so have the pains in my limbs.

I am baffled that this could all be post viral, but I'm also feeling fortunate as they did suspect a clot on my brain.

I hope this helps anyone reading and gives a sense of hope that the news isn't always too bad sometimes.

    I wish you all well.

    Thanks

  • Hello Jet111,

thanks for the update and l hope your long covid is a shorter version than that experienced by some of the previous sufferers. Now that you have been able to dismiss your previous fears, just accept where you are, relax and keep stress free since this will play a big part in the speed of your recovery,

                        take care,

                                                            David
