Mum waiting on MRI results - 8 weeks!

Hi.

my mum has had issues with her stomach for around 12 months.

She was sent for an mri 8.5 weeks ago and we are still waiting on the results. A telephone appointment has been booked in for next week which will make this 9 weeks.

Is this reassuring or could she still elect bad news?
i am extremely anxious for her :(

has anyone ever waited this long? Would a phone call be booked for all MRI results? Or would it just be a letter if there was nothing wrong? The fact there is a call scheduled tells me there is a problem.

sorry I have extremely bad anxiety and I worry and think the worst about everything

  • Hi Emma and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

I'm very sorry to hear about the problems your mum has been having with her stomach over the last year but I'm glad tests have been carried out and that you'll be finding out the results soon.

How results and given and the length of time you've had to wait for them has been affected by the pandemic and can differ depending on part of the country you're in, so if you can, try not to overthink or read too much in to your mum getting her results via telephone. Always much easier said than done I know, but I hope it helps to know that many of our members have been in this situation so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer your their thoughts and advice.

In the meantime, I'll have my fingers crossed your mum receives good news next week.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
