Worried about lining thickness

Hi,

First time posting.

For around a year or so i have had really heavy and painful periods, so i went to the doctor who referred me for an internal scan. My scan showed my endometrial thickness was 15mm so i was referred to have a biopsy taken.

The biopsy came back with no abnormalities but i was referred for another internal scan which has shown my thickness has changed to 18mm now. Doctor has said they will see me again in 6 months. But i feel like thats 6 months of worry rather than 6 months of reassurance.

Should my lining be increasing in thickness that much in the 3 months between the scans i had?

Can i request any other tests? Im constantly worried that all i have red online has said the thicker the lining the higher risk for cancers.

  • Hi ABHC89,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear that the doctor isn't too concerned and that they are monitoring things, but I appreciate it hasn't exactly given you any answers or full reassurance.

I'm sure if they had any concerns then they would be doing more at this point, however you can of course give the doctor a call to discuss this and to ask any questions you have to help you better understand the situation. If you're not happy following this, you can always ask for a second opinion from a different doctor.

If prior to this you feel you'd like to talk things through with someone, you are welcome to give our nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,
