Post menopause bleeding

I was wondering if anyone had similar symptoms. I am nearly 59 and post menopause about 6.5 years and have had some clear a vaginal fluid, about 2 weeks ago then last week I had a really bad cramp feeling lower abdominal and continued with clear fluid but no irritation and then Sunday I started with vaginal bleeding bright red ! My boobs really started to be very tender all symptoms like a full blown period! It's all very alarming and when you read on the internet it is quite frightening! Has anyone had similar and what routes have you taken ? Thanking in advance for any replies

  • I am similar age and have also experienced discharge and then a bleed for about 5 to 6 days. This was like a light period.  I have been referred to Gynaecology and attend tomorrow for hysteroscopy to check for any abnormalities in the uterus etc.  Any post menopausal bleeding needs to be checked and is dealt with as an urgent referral. Hope this helps.

  • I had exactly the same last year at 54.  I was just post menopause (no periods for 12 months), then really sore boobs followed by extremely heavy bright red bleeding.  This was very unusual for me as my periods had always been very light.

Urgent referral to gynae.  Ultrasound and uterine biopsy (inconclusive), then full hysteroscopy.  Despite having a slightly thickened endometrium (9mm) I was told everything was fine and my uterus looked normal.  No rhyme or reason for any of it and I'm convinced it was just one last go as I've since pretty much finished again.

Any post menopausal bleeding needs to be checked out, but I hope my experience will give you some reassurance.  Dr Google and over thinking is your worst enemy, try to avoid both if you can.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Thank you for your reply I am going to try and get a Drs appointment today too to see what they say ! I hope all goes well for you it's such a worry I can't think of anything else !

  • Oh thank you this has given me some reassurance and so glad your ok! It is such a worry it all came out of the blue for me, so it's scared me and as you say googling makes things so much worse ! I will try and get a Drs appointment today, it's the waiting that makes things worse ! Thank you so much for replying to me!

  • You're doing the right thing getting a Drs appointment, it's important to get this bleeding checked out.  Waiting for appointments and tests is never easy and it helps to keep busy to distract yourself.  Good luck with everything.  You'll have some peace of mind when it's sorted.

  • Hi me again, I have an appointment now booked for tomorrow! Can I ask how did your appointment go I hope all went well ! Still terribly nervous thou!! Wishing you well
