Swollen lymph node and one tonsil bigger

Hi,

I've has recurrent episodes of tonsillitis since I was very young. I had quinsy in Dec 2019 and was hospitalised. I got tonsillitis for the first time in a year and a half in Sept 2021 and spent next 2 weeks with tonsillitis continually coming back and 3 x antibiotics. It didn't get rid of it and I left it to go away on its own. I've had a swollen lymph node in my neck on the right side ever since. At the time of the tonsillitis, both lymph nodes were swollen. Sometimes it gets really big, other times it's tiny. I've had it checked by doctor who says it's a reactive lymph node and checked my weight just in case I lose any and asked me about night sweats. I've had none of that. If I get a similar tonsillitis infection now it's only on one side. I've noticed it's bigger than the other. I am freaking out.

Any thoughts on this please - I can't stop crying.

  • Hi Bee28

Sorry you're going through such a distressing time with all the symptoms with your tonsils. I don't have any experience with this but was wondering if your doctor would consider referring you for further tests to try to get to the bottom of what's going on and put your mind at rest. I'm sorry, I'm sure you already thought of that - but just in case it helps to have an internet stranger say that I think it would be reasonable and more than justified to ask for that! I hope your doctor has taken on board how anxious this is making you.
