2ww gynae-oncologist referral

I have recently had an abnormal ultrasound scan which shows an enlarged uterus, mass arising from one of the ovaries and multiple fibroids. The GP has given a 2ww urgent referral for a gynae-oncologist, and I am yet to receive a call from the hospital (1 week already gone past). I have private cover from my employer and am debating which one will give me the quickest diagnosis and treatment (to the extent needed). Will the first NHS appointment with the specialist consultant include tests like MRI scans, hysterescopy, taking a sample of biopsy, or would it just be an initial verbal consultation and I will have to wait for another appointment for actual tests? Don't want the diagnosis to drag for weeks.

Under private treatment, I don't know the process under private healthcare as never needed one, but it seems like the first appointment with consultant bookable online is only for 15 mins so seems like there won't be any actual tests done at that one. Is that what one would expect?

Any experience/ thoughts, gratefully received!

  • As its a two week wait l would stay with nhs and see what they offer when l went to gynaecology oncology they were quick. The first appointment was to see the doctor be examined and discuss treatment. I had MRI and Ultrasound scans afterwards to see if there was any changes in the size of my complex ovarian cysts  The consultant was really nice and operation was arranged in good time during Covid. The operation took longer than expected due to adhesions and I had to stay in hospital for 5 days. Instead of day surgery
