Lymph node enlarged for 8 years

Hi Everyone

New here, first post please I would just like some advice, I have an enlarged lymph node in my pelvic area since the age of 30, I’m now 38 when I got an enlarged lymph node initially it was very painful to the point I thought my knee was disintegrating for some weird reason the pain from my lymph node travel to my knee joint on the same side, feeling the lump I thought I had ovarian cancer when I saw my GP he asked how did I come that conclusion I answered ‘Google’ he stared at me funny, he felt the lump and told me it’s a lymph node and said it should go down, it never did, I begged my GP for ultrasound and they noted my lymph node was enlarged, (but not abnormally big) :confused:I tried giving myself a lymph node massage but’s not gone,(I won’t lie I was not consistent with the massage) however when I got a bad cold, on my period and after kick boxing class the lymph get bigger and I get a perpetual dull ache, because I understand that lymph nodes fight infection, I went to an STD clinic  and asked for tested negative my GP over the years keeps saying it not cancer but will not put me through extra tests even though my enlarged lymph node is now 8 years old.

Please if anyone has any advice please I would appreciate it.

  • Hi CottonFreshLinen,

It's good to hear your doctor isn't too concerned about this. Do try to take some reassurance from their view - if they had any concerns at all then they would refer for further tests to double check.

It's hard to give any further advice, but if you feel you are still worried about it, the only thing to do is to speak to your GP again, or to get a second opinion from a different doctor.

    All the best,

  • Hi there, welcome,

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. If your doctor was worried they would tell you and refer you for further tests and investigation. So try to remember that and don't panic.

If you're still worried or feel you need to be seen then defos see your doctor again or a different doctor as Ben said. There's nothing wrong with asking a second opinion :)

    Sending you love and hugs.

    Love Jess xx
