Raised PSA, Negative on MRI for Prostate, but why have a MDT

Hello,

My dad is 79 and has raised PSA levels for his prostate, becasue of this he has yearly MRI scans - In the last week he had the results of his latest MRI scan by phone, the consultant said he was in the clear.  Just 5 days after receiving this news he got a phone call from the urology department saying that they are holding an MDT meeting for him and would like to see him next week - We are now worried that he has had a mis-diagnosis, or else why would they need to see him again after being given the all clear?

Has anybody else been through this, why would they call him up again when he's only just been cleared from his MRI.

Thank you for reading,

from a very worried daughter

  • Hi Mypooroldmum,

I can certainly understand your concerns about this, and I can see that it seems a little confusing.

It's very hard to say why they want to see him - I can only say that I hope it's not long for you to wait to find out more about this.

Hopefully you'll receive further replies soon, particularly if others have similar experience to share.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi!

    I hope things are ok.

we have recently been through a very similar situation with my grandmother but for a different issue (Ovarian mass). After the MDT meeting we were called back the very next day for a meeting and the appointment was the last appointment of the day. We were all terrified, overthinking, so very worried.

At the appointment we were told that together they all discussed her as a patient with  a.view to discuss what the best next steps would be and if they were all in agreement of what they thought it was.  It doesn't seem that it's cancerous but they did want to do some surgery and keep an eye on it x

    good luck xx

  • Hello Alou11,

Thanks so much for your reply and reassurance - this is what are hoping as well, just that horrible niggle in case they got the initial diagnosis wrong.  We will know more tomorrow after dad meets with his consultant.

I hope your grandmother is doing ok .

    Kind regards, take care xx
