MRI now being sent for a further scan

Hello. I have been heaving really bad headaches for a few months couple with sudden onset of dizziness. The last week or so I have actually been feeling slightly better. I am normally a fit and healthy 37 year old. I had COVID end of January and things did deteriorate after this although I wasn't actually too poorly when I had it. I had a head MRI last Thursday and then received a letter today with an appointment for an MRI AUDITORY MEATUS BOTH scan in ten days time. I am litterally freaking out. I rang the Department as I thought that is was a mistake and they said the person who had looked at the results had requested this further scan. Anyone had any experience or any advice that can reduce my anxiety? Thank you for reading this.

  • Hello jennanicole

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing health concerns over the past few months. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what may be causing these issues and why a second MRI has been requested.

There could be many reasons that the reporting radiologist has requested additional scans and we would only be guessing at those reasons. What it does mean though is that when all the results are in, the Dr will hopefully be able to give you a clear reason for the symptoms that you've been experiencing.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a difficult time for many people. If you would like to talk to one of our nurses you're welcome to call them. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any support and advice that they can. They're available on 0808 800 4040, 9 am to 5 pm, and will be back in the office from Tuesday 19th April.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn

  • 3 years ago i had a head mri because i suddenly lost around 15% of my hearing in one ear and the tinnitus was also bad.

I went for the first mri but like yourself, got called back for a second one after the scans had been reviewed.

The reason? Because the first mri scan wasn't clear enough (this wasn't ever explained to me prior to the 2nd one). So had to get a second so they had a clearer picture. Nothing was found either time. The initial reason i was given for my recall was similar to yours. Ambiguous as it gets. I freaked a little. I really wish they'd jot down the reason why you're getting recalled so if it's something simple, you don't have yourself dead and buried.

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it.
