Lump on neck

I found a small lump on the right side of my neck, the lump is hard, does not move and causes no pain at all. I visited the doctors over this a few weeks ago and have been referred for an ultrasound as he didn't know what this could be. I rang the hospital to ensure the referral had been sent but they informed me they hadn't recieved one apparently the doctors have sent another over but have no idea how long it will take now for an appointment, my mind is in over drive thinking the worst. Has anyone had a lump similar?

    I'm sorry to hear that you recently found a lump. You did exactly the right thing in seeing your GP and I'm glad to hear that it's being investigated, despite the delay in the referral. 

    We know that waiting for appointments can be a difficult time. It may be worth giving the department a call next week to check that your referral has been received and ask how long you may have to wait for an appointment. If you would be able to attend an appointment at short notice it may be worth mentioning this to the hospital in case any cancellation appointments crop up. 

    In the meantime trying to remain positive and keeping yourself busy can help the time pass more quickly.
