Lump neck

I've had a lump on my neck for a few months. Not painful at all. I suppose I have had a few colds. It doesn't change size or shape, when I'm poorly or not. I seen 2 doctors who were not worried, then I pushed for answers and got an urgent referral. I seen a consultant who barely said a word to me. He didn't know what it was and sent me for a urgent MRI in 4 weeks. A few days later I had an ultrasound which was arranged by a GP. The report says - there were 2 enlarged lymph nodes, 13x18 and 10x18 diameter with loss of stroma and increased peripheral vascularity suggestive of a reactive nature. I've called the GP and they just said because I have been referred the consultant will look at it.
Is this a good thing? Has anyone experienced this? Im very anxious.

  • Hi LaLaLlama and welcome to the forum.

Many of our members have contended with neck lumps and enlarged lymph nodes so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer their thoughts and support.

Waiting for news is always tough but I hope some of these tips and advice will help keep your nerves at bay until you know more.

Fingers crossed you hear from the consultant soon and you receive good news.

    Kind regards,

  • I wanted to update for anyone else going through this. I drove myself sick with worry. It was a tough time waiting for results. Unfortunately many of my urgent scans and appointments took weeks with delays. I was referred to a rapid diagnosis centre where I had more scans and biopsies. They found the lumps had grown and I had several more on the other side. The biopsies all came back clear. I'm still under my consultant who will monitor them. Several doctors did tell me they are seeing a lot of this at the moment with covid infections and vaccines.  It's important to get things checked out, but also not to self diagnose or Google!
