Uterine cancer link to thyroid cancer

Hello

I was diagnosed with grade 1 uterine cancer last March, had a hysterectomy and no further treatment as the cancer was contained in the womb.

I am now having tests for possible thyroid cancer as I have a U2 lump and a U4 lump which looks suspicious for cancer. I am waiting for more biopsies. i can't believe I am here again waiting for another cancer diagnosis. I had hoped I was past it and am really struggling with my mental health and dark thoughts that cancer is determined to get me.

I am a 55 year old woman and just wondered if anyone else had been through this - having 2 primary cancers within a year. Also wondered if there was a link between the 2.  Reaching out to hear of any similar experiences and outcomes.

    I have no idea if there is a link but most forms of thyroid cancer are pretty mild. I had thyroid cancer two years ago. I had my thyroid removed and really no more trouble. I was out of work for a month, recovering from the operation. It probably wasn't any worse a situation than having something like my appendix removed.

    I did have to have radioiodine treatment afterwards to reduces e the risk of recurrence but that was really just a couple e of swallowing a capsule. It's a once off too. And now I take tablets to replace what my thyroid used to do.

    But my life hasn't changed in the least. I am just as fit and healthy as before and really was for all except a couple of weeks after the operation. And even that was just a matter of getting tired a bit earlier than usual and my neck being sore. By the time I went back to work, the worst thing was my voice was a bit weak.

    I am totally fine and so far have no sign of recurrence.

    Thank you MargaretMary that is reassuring and I am so glad you have recovered well.  I just am so low that this is happening again. It feels like I cannot get any joy or motivation for all the worrying. Xx

    Yeah, you really are going through it. But the odds are still probably against its being cancer.

    And even if it is, it is likely to be a very different scenario to what you have experienced prevously. Obviously, nobody wants any form of cancer, but there are a lot of comments online about how if you had to have cancer but could choose which type, thyroid cancer would be the one to choose.

    And for full disclosure's sake, my nodule was 10.5cm and the cancerous part was 6.7cm and there was spread to the lypmh nodes (though only to 8), so even if you do have thyroid cancer, it is likely to be smaller and less concerning than mine.
