Throat biopsy results

Firstly I will start by saying I am a 28 year old female - I went to the doctors for a lump behind my tonsil (no symptoms, could just see it in the mirror) which was causing me some concern. The gp tried to dismiss me but I insisted to be seen by ENT. Got referred down the 14 day cancer pathway (scary) and was seen by a surgeon, had an mri and throat biopsy - all in a month (scary again).

I remember after the surgery the surgeon came to me and he said it didn't look like anything sinister so it will likely be a phone appointment for your results, BUT if anything weird or wonderful comes back we will need to bring you back into clinic. I had my letter through today asking me to go into clinic in 6 days time and my heart stopped. Now I can't stop replaying what the surgeon has said in my head and thinking the worst. It's something bad or they wouldn't bring me back. What if it's cancer!!!!!

  • Hi

    Hope your okay

I'm in a similar situation but further behind as still waiting for my mri unfortunately

I'd like to say to you hopefully it could still be good news, is the mri and biopsy the only investigation you've had done? I got told I would need to come back in and have a joint appointment with an ENT to have a camera in my nose and throat before they let me go. I'm hoping this will be the case for you too.

    Take care

  • Sorry to hear you're going through this too! It's so awful. I had the camera up my nose at my first appointment, then an mri the week after and then the biopsy 2 days after.

whst are your symptoms if you don't mind me asking? X

  • It's okay I apologise in advance it's a long one :silly:

My current symptoms are maybe related to having covid in November 21, laryngitis tonsillitis and pharyngitis didn't feel better till around Christmas time obviously took a photo at the time due to a telephone conversation with my GP. Fast forward to early March this year it was the weekend and I had what I thought was my bells palsy symptoms coming back. As I was talking to 111 I ran my tongue at roof of my mouth and felt a long swelling, they got me in to see an emergency dentist on the Monday, that particular swelling didn't cause him any concerns but as I told him about my covid symptoms he saw the lesion at the back of my throat and said I'd be a good case study.... had a phone call the next day to see maxillofacial mid march, had an oral xray nothing on there besides wisdom teeth not come down and she referred me for an "urgent" mri. Since then I have more raised lymph nodes mainly down the right and back right of my neck which is causing creases and stiffness and I think nodes/swelling in my shoulder. My throat doesn't hurt I just feel like I'm choking on my tongue when I yawn and trying to swallow hard foods has been challenging maybe to do with the redness at the back of my throat, which has been there since covid along with an extra lump above my right tonsil and a few ulcers on soft palate.

I'm hoping you don't receive bad news but if you do I hope you have a good support system around you xxx and everyone in this forum seems helpful.

Keep in touch I have my Mri Thursday.

  • Oh sounds stressful and like there's a lot going on! A promising thing is they've not sent you for a biopsy and the fact they think you'd be an interesting case study ha! Hopefully just some weird and wonderful lumps and bumps. Good luck with your mri.

I will let you know my results....if I make it to Thursday! The stress and anxiety might have killed me off before then!! Xx

  • Yeah stressed is an understatement lol....

I have health anxiety due to long standing symptoms and Dr's not believing me etc etc. So this has been hard as yet again my symptoms could be unexplained. I have a feeling chloisms will be a medical term for what ever I have in the future :laugh: weird and wonderful is my specialities but I  also have a real fear they have missed something from last year

we will get to Thursday together

Please let me know how you get on I'll be updating on mine too obviously nothing to say Thursday but hoping I'll speak to the secretary on Friday xx
