Swollen lymph node.

Hi

About 4 weeks ago I found a swollen lymph node in my right side of the neck. I went to the doctor and she said it was slapped cheek disease which had caused this and said to come back in 4 weeks if it hadn't went away (it didn't). So I went back to a second doctor and he examined my neck chest stomach etc and said it just seemed from examination to be a swollen lymph node from infection, but I haven't had any physical sign of infection , my ears nose and throat was all clear. He give me antibiotics and said if in 2 weeks it hasn't cleared to ring back down for bloods. 2 weeks have passed and it still hasn't went away.

I'm going for bloods on Friday morning but I'm so stressed out because I'm only 20 :(. The lump seems to roll back and forward when I press it almost like a bump going up and down if that makes any sense.
it's not painful and some days it enlarges and then other days it's harder to find but still there.
my face has also tended to flush red over the past 2/3 years even before the lymph node was apparent. My face would go red all over my two cheeks from things like drinking a tin of coke to certain foods and drinks. Could this be linked? Has anyone else experienced anything similar

thanks

  • Hello Mollie,

How did your bloods go on Friday? I hope you won't have to wait too long for the results. It's hard to know whether these issues might be linked; only a medical expert will be able to tell you for sure and they will hopefully have more clarity on all this once they have had  all the results. Hopefully you will get some definite answers soon and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine.

I hope that you will hear from others here who have experienced something similar and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Molly,

    Hope your okay

I'm in a similar situation myself.

I have inflamed lymph nodes in quite a few places now, it all started over a year sgo with one behind my right ear, still there but apparently nothing to worry about, long story short I have covid November 21, and it caused massive problems with my throat mainly being laryngitis no voice for 4 weeks tonsillitis and pharyngitis. They settled by Christmas but the look of my throat stayed the same. I have a weird red lump on my oropharynx behind the uvula upper right an extra growth above my right tonsil with redness and ulcers around my soft palate. Got referred to head and neck via a emergency dentist appointment, had an oral xray and basically been told she's ruling out cancer. She wanted an urgent mri with dye on my neck unfortunately been waiting for a while it's this Thursday 14th. I've seen my GP in the meantime as im struggling to swallow my tongue gets stuck when im yawning and also my lymph nodes have reacted all over my neck and have a swelling in my shoulder she apparently wrote to my consultant but not heard anything  she did bloods which thankfully just show my CRP is raised but that has been raised for most probably 2 years now

Did you get your blood results?

    take care

  • Hi

I received my blood test results today. My liver and kidney function both came back normal. My overall blood count was acceptable rather than normal , apparently because of a type of reactive white blood cell which was found relating to glandular fever or a type of disease called mononucleosis it can be caught through utensils , glassses, cups salvia etc . The doctor seems to think this may be why the lymph node is swollen but I have to go back for more bloods to rule out a previous or current infection.

    thanks for your help

    Mollie

  • That's great news Mollie and no doubt, such a relief as well.

I'm sure your outcome will really give encouragement to others who are experiencing similar symptoms.

In the meantime, we'll have our fingers crossed your next set of blood test results rule out any infections and things start getting back to normal for you soon.

    Kind regards,
