29yrs first lump

Hi I recently found a lump in my breast due to my left boob being painful the last 3 weeks. This is the first time I've ever found a lump, I've been to the doctors & they put me on antibiotics straight away & referred me to have this investigated further at the hospital. She said it's 1cm, doesn't move & my boob is swollen. Has anyone had similar? As I'm panicking, it's all I can think about.

    Hi Mommy,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

You are doing the right thing by getting this investigated. Try not to panic (impossible, I know!). Not all lumps are cancerous. Many people have benign lumps, hormonal or fibrous changes. The only way to be certain whether or not cancer is present is to have some simple tests and a biopsy. If you have a biopsy, it may take another 1-3 weeks to get the results of this.

Have you got a date for the hospital yet? Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi I haven't had my letter yet, i am waiting now, I presume would of been processed when I left the doctors today. Do you know if they will do a mammogram as I'm only 29? I'm hoping they just do a biopsy straight away as that's truely the only thing that will put my mind as ease x

    Hi,

You will usually get an appointment within 2 weeks from referral, although this can take a little longer at the moment, due to Covid.

As a rule of thumb, they usually only carry out mammograms in those over 40. This is because younger people tend to have denser breasts and, therefore these don't show up so well on mammogram. They are likely to carry out an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Mommy2022

I had a lump in December which turned out to be a breast absess. I was given antibiotics and after a few days the absess came to the surface and I had an urgent appointment to have it drained in the breast clinic. I was breast feeding at the time but I know that this can occur with women even when not breast feeding.

they will do an ultrasound in clinic and go from there. They could see clearly straight away mine was a 4 cm deep infection. As you have some pain sounds like this could be the cause too.

    take care x

  • Hi everyone, me again, it's been 4 days since in came back from the doctors and received no letter, than all of a sudden the hospital have called asking me to go in tomorrow at 2. Should I be worried about this? I haven't had a letter, this all seems fairly quick, I'm panicking about what the doctor wrote in my referral and didn't say x
