HPV High grade and link to Oral cancer

Hi,

I recently had a colposcopy last week and had the LLETZ treatment there and then (high grade moderate).

Still obviously waiting for biopsy results but I'm scared of the HPV side of it and how it can also cause oral cancers!

Have been checking my mouth and gums today and have noticed some small lumps/spots on the floor of my mouth. Don't quite look like ulcers/canker sores but more like a small spot? It's along the saliva glands I think.

I have very bad health anxiety and I'm just getting over the whole abnormal cells situation and now I'm panicking about my mouth!

How likely is it Hpv could cause abnormal cells in your cervix and mouth at the same time?

  • Hello L2109H and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately I can't answer your question about HPV and oral cancers but our lovely team of cancer nurses may be able to help so if you'd like to have a chat with them, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. Our nurses are very knowledgeable in this field and will do all they can to put your mind at ease.

For additional reading, I'd recommend having a look at this article on our website and the HPV FAQs on Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.

I hope this helps and that your biopsy results bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,
