Larynx issues

Hi everyone

I'm absolutely terrified, I've been having throat problems for 9 months now, which I could describe as a throat infection every 2-3 days , then ok for a few days then flaring up again. Constant clearing of the throat.
I've been to the GP on and off for 9 months, blood tests done , nothing showing up, just fed up and no one was listening to my concerns. In all I've seen 5 Gp and a nurse they would look in my mouth and say nothing looks alarming to them. The last GP I saw said the same and when I questioned if I just lived with it she then said she would pass a note to ENT but they probably would not be in touch. Well they did get in touch and gave me a urgent referral I went there yesterday , they have a found a lesion on my larynx in the posterior commissure area, it's quite big, I now need a biopsy in a few weeks as I've got some reflux medication to take before- although I've not suffered reflux. My question is as I can't find anything similar on google , is it possible to have a benign tumour in this area of the larynx. I have a 1 year old child so very worried .

  • Welcome to the forum Mumma4556 although I'm sorry about the lesion that's been found on your larynx.

I know this must be very scary but if you can, try not to jump to any conclusions or think the worst. Always easier said than done but the lesion could be many things, and as you've even mentioned in your post, something benign.

I know this won't take the fear or worry away but I hope it helps to know that a lot of our members have been in similar situations so will completely understand what you're going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

If you'd like to see if our cancer nurses can answer your question then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday and they'll do all they can to help put your mind at ease.

Waiting for tests and results is always tough but I hope some of the tips and advice given in this article will help keep your nerves at bay until you know more.

Good luck with your biopsy Mumma. We'll be thinking of you and have our fingers crossed for good news.
