Pre diagnosis? advice ? Family history?

Hi I'm 33 and take the pill (cerzetta) , haven't had periods in years so I can not gauge if it's suppose to by my cycle or not.

Am awaiting a gentic specialist (aug 22) had one previously a few years back due to the history and they said then I was high risk but being referred again due to recent family cancers to reaccess my risk and to take precautions to prevent it.

Family history all the women on mother's side have all have breast cancer and mother on my father's side.

Recently my mum had breast cancer for the second time at Xmas and is currently going through chemo and then radiotherapy. :(

Ok so for the last 9+ weeks my left nipple has had burning sensation, stinging and feels like a sudden burn. It would last from anywhere from 5mins till a hour or so. It didn't hurt to touch it while it was happening. Doesn't hurt when I check myself. my left nipple on the top has inverted and it Changed shape from round to long and narrow and changed colour slightly. I've tried to use cold compass and hot and aqueous cream to see if that would help with no difference to the burn sensation. It's just random throughout the day and night.

And recently the left upper breast is now feeling a bit achy at times like a dull ache.

Then right side nipple started to have the odd burn sensation and then a few times both nipples together at same time- no bumps or lumps still.

Right nipple is still looking normal.

Haven't changed washing powder or my shower gel etc.

I know how to check myself and no lumps or bumps.  And it's not sore.

I did go to my GP once I was able to get a appointment, they checked and agreed it looks different to other one and told them everything - they have referred me to the breast clinic and appointment is withint 2 weeks.

I know what to expect as went with mum and aunt etc but I'm just not sure if there is anything I can do in the mean time to help or think I just wanted somewhere to talk I think. I think I'm calm on the outside and showing it to my mum and husband but it's a scary process to be going through thinking is it?

Has anyone gone through similar?

Thanks and sorry for the long post.

  • Hello Nat and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

It is definitely a scary process to be going through and hopefully you will get some answers soon when you are seen at the breast clinic. I hope that you will hear from the experiences of others who have been through something similar and that they will come and share their story with you.

You've come to the right place to talk to others who understand what you are going through at the moment and how stressful the wait can be. There are some useful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I know you mentioned that you've accompanied your mum and aunt to the breast clinic before and that you know what to expect but I thought I would also share with you this information on what to expect at a breast clinic appointment.

I hope it all goes well for you and that you won't have to wait too long for your appointment.

    Best wishes,
