Health anxiety and mole biopsy

I'm 31 years old and have recently been for a mole excision.  Im very fair skinned and have moles and freckles on my body.  My mum had cancer a couple of years ago and I also lost a friend to Cancer. Since this my health anxiety is through the roof.

I went to the gp to check my moles. There was one on my back that was very suspicious looking two colours and a weird shape. I remember having it for at least 5 years. He said he thought it looked benign but would refer me to a dermatologist urgently so I didn't have to wait weeks on end.

I went to the dermatologist and he said it was Atypical and I had two options. The first was to have photos taken and come back in a few months. The second option was to have it cut out. I also asked him if it looked like cancer to which he replied he could see no obvious signs of cancer.

I went for the excision. I asked the derm (a different one) who cut it out if it was likely to be cancer to which she replied she couldn't say until they send it off.

It's consuming me and I feel sick with worry. I'm convinced it's melanoma as it looks like it. Has anyone had a similar situation?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Tor90L although I'm sorry for the reason you've joined us.

Many of our members know how challenging waiting for results can be, so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

In the meantime, I hope you can take some reassurance from what the dermatologists have told you and that this article I've found on how to cope with waiting for news will help keep your anxiety at bay until you know more.

Fingers crossed the results will bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,
