Awaiting mole removal

Hello all,

I had a new mole appear on my skin 3 months ago. It is about 1mm wide and very dark.

I had my appointment to see the dermatologist today and he advised it should be removed. Does anyone know how long the wait roughly is before this happens? I should have asked!

P.S. Since I got referred, I have driven myself up the wall with diagnoses from Dr. Google. I was so worried that I was even getting imaginary pains from the area near the mole. I was reading this forum 2 weeks ago (but only joined today) and just reading the supportive posts on other threads has really calmed me down and helped. So thank you to everyone on here who makes the effort to share their story and comment.

  • Hello Curlymay and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am not sure myself how long the wait from referral to mole excision tends to be - it may be worth ringing the dermatologist's secretary to find out as there may be slight variations depending on the area where you live. I hope that some of our members who have had their moles removed will come and share their experience with you and tell you more about what these waiting times were for them.

You will find out more on this page on the excision biopsy. Try not to worry too much about it though. It is inevitable that consulting the famously unreliable Dr Google will make you even more anxious and show you the worst possible cases. Poor you if it even gave you imaginary pains in the area near the mole! Stick to reliable sources like our forum or our website if you can and keep well away from Google. I am glad that reading the supportive posts on here has helped you feel more relaxed. I hope that you will hear from other members who have been through the same before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

Best of luck for your mole removal. I hope it all goes well and that you get reassuring results soon.

    Best wishes,
