Pet ct findings - lymph nodes

Hi everyone

I posted a few months ago that I had been undergoing tests for a cluster of swollen lymph nodes in my pelvic area but didn't get any responses.

I had a repeated ct in January which showed nothing had changed and my lymph nodes were still inflamed but hadn't got bigger. I was then referred for a pet ct which I had last Thursday.

The haemotologist has called me today to say that there is 'activity' in the pelvic nodes, and have found a singular swollen node with activity in my neck (that I can't feel)

I did recently have a tooth abscess so I'm hoping that may be the cause of the neck node. I have to have a biopsy to see if it is cancer, as the ones in my pelvis are too difficult to reach.

I'm so terrified that it may turn out to be the worst. Has anybody else been through similar? I really need someone to talk to.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Lou135,

I am sorry to hear that following your scan, the haematologist called you to say there was activity in the pelvic nodes. I hope you won't have to wait too long to have the biopsy and for your biopsy results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for definite answers.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there are so many things it could be other than cancer. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to read and reply Lucie.

I've made the mistake of reading so much about pet scans, that I've convinced myself it's cancer due to the low percentage of false positives.

I'm not feeling ill and never have recently. All of this started with a trip to the GP in October about excessive sweating which had been going on for years. It just turned out my wbc was slightly raised. And now I'm finding myself in the most terrifying and upsetting time of my life :(

Fingers crossed it will be positive.
