MRI results

Hi all,

I just would like to know who gave you your MRI results.

I tried to chase my consultant's secretaries, but there's never an answer. Today I received a report from my appointment with the consultant confirming that as discussed he would send me for several exams and there were telephone numbers in the letter, so I decided to call and ask for my results.

I was shocked when the reply was from the Maggie or Macmillan nurses and was told that a nurse would call me back with regards to my results within 48h.

But a couple of hours later I received another call saying that a nurse would not call me but that I had to wait to hear from the consultant but no appointment has been made and to chase his secretaries if needed.

What can all this mean?

  • Hello SelynaPTR

From your previous posts, I think I'm correct in saying that you've not yet had a formal diagnosis. In which case it wouldn't be typical for a nurse, even a specialist nurse, to give you test results.

Often during the process of diagnosis, test results are discussed by a multi-disciplinary team before an appointment between the Consultant and patient. This usually helps the Consultant to be able to give you as much information as they can about things.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a difficult time for many people. Often it can help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you'd find it beneficial to chat with one of our nurses. I can see that you've been through quite a bit over the past few weeks and I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I really do hope that you don't have to wait too much longer for answers.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jen,

I would like to thank you for your reply and your kind words. As I mentioned in another post, I got my MRI results today and nothing sinister was found.

I still do not have a diagnosis or answer to my symptoms but a possibility is pelvic floor dysfunction.

Anyway, I would like to thank you and this forum for the support provided over these very difficult last weeks. It's been very comforting to share my experience and learn from others as well. It helped me keep going through difficult days of tests, appointments and waiting for test results.

    Thank you!

    Hi SelynaPTR,

I am delighted to hear that your results showed nothing sinister. I'm sure that this must come as a relief to you, even though it means that you still do not have a diagnosis. I do hope that a reason for your symptoms can be found soon.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
