Follow up smear test dyskaryosis

From a routine smear test it was picked up that I had HPV and high grade abnormal sells, neither have been flagged before. I went along and had the check up and they did a LLETZ to remove the cells. It didn't go great and took quite a while as it was a large area so alot was removed and I bleed for weeks after.

I've just had my 6 month follow up smear and it's come back with more abnormal cells, HPV positive still and they are sending me again for a colposcopy.

I am so worried as my periods haven't even settled down from the first procedure to remove cells, could this be a sign something is really wrong?

All I've had is a letter saying I will get a appointment at some point Has anyone been through something similar?

  • Hello Alba123

I'm sorry to hear that your most recent cervical screening result has shown that there are still some abnormal cells with HPV present. It's perfectly understandable that you're feeling anxious about this.

I know that we've had lots of ladies post here on the forum who have had similar experiences to you and hopefully they will post to share their experiences with you.

In the meantime, there's lots of information available on the Jo's Trust website that you may find helpful. I'd also suggest giving our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them. I'm sure they will be able to offer some information and support to help ahead of your next appointment. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment and that things are resolved fro you quickly.

    Best wishes,
