Cell changes in cervical screening

Hi all

 

looking for some advice or if anyone has been through something similar. I had my first cervical screening (I am 24) which came back positive for HPV and cell changes. I'm guessing I have had it a while since I've been with my partner for 3 years and the cell changes have happened (which I believe happens over time if the infection doesn't clear). I am waiting for my appointment for a colposcopy. Does anyone know when they will contact me? I got my letter today. 
 

I have literally just gotten discharged from my gastroenterologist after having a high risk bowel polyp removed which is very rare at my age. I can't help but think the 2 may be linked and worried I have some sort of genetic problem causing these issues. I feel sick with worry that these scares are going to continually crop up. I find myself constantly searching for signs of illness and once one thing is sorted something else seems to start causing problems. :confused: the stress of waiting for appointments and results really gets to me  

Has anyone got any advice? does anyone know how to go about getting genetic testing for these sorts of things? I don't know if it's just bad luck or worth looking into.

    I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had abnormal cervical screening results. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things. 

    About 80% of men and women will get HPV at some point in their lives. It's far more common than many people realise. It's unfortunate that your results have some cell changes but it's good to know that you've already been referred for a colposcopy and that they have been in touch. 

    There's lots of really good information on the Jo's Trust website about HPV, cell changes, and colposcopy which will hopefully give you some reassurance but if you'd like to talk with one of our team of nurses you're most welcome to call them. I'm sure they will help with any advice, information, and support that they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040. 

    Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment and things will be resolved quickly for you.
