Breast lump not responding to antibiotics - advice please!

Hi,

I visited my G.P. 5 days ago due to a breast lump that was red and slightly painful. I am 45 years old.

She prescribed me antibiotics which I've just finished.

The redness has gone down but the lump remains the same.

G.P. said she wanted to see my in 5 weeks to check the lump.

Does anyone know if it's usual to have to wait 5 weeks to get this re-checked?? Am worried as the usual wait at my surgery is 5 weeks and am worried that's why she gave me this timescale!!

would appreciate any advice as am now worrying myself about this.

Thank you!

  • Hello Julie

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some concerns with your breast health. you did exactly the right thing in going to see your GP and it sounds positive that it has improved slightly since you had the antibiotics.

Sometimes A Gp will wait to see if the lump changes during a woman's menstrual cycle so we do often have ladies post who have been asked to wait a few weeks. We know that this can leave women feeling anxious and worried and so I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call to chat things through with them. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Alternatively, give your GP a call this week and update them on things. They may ask to see you sooner.

I do hope that things settle for you soon.

    Best wishes,
