Pre-Op for Lumpectomy

Hi all,

I'm new here but have followed the forum for a while, reading of so much bravery.

My other half is unfortunately waiting for a breast lumpectomy as the Consultant isn't happy to leave it due to family history and abnormal cells.

My question is her pre-op is Friday, but with no operation date yet. She has asked to be considered for any last min cancellations, and the original letter said he wanted to do the procedure in 3-4 weeks. How long did you have to wait from pre-op to surgery?

Totally understand all Trusts will be different and of course different levels of urgency. I just wanted some experiences with those who have been through this.

The waiting is the worst.

  • Hello Lou2019,

It mentions on our page on preparing for breast surgery that the pre assessment clinic appointment takes place about a week or so before surgery but as you said there may be regional variations and these timeframes might also have been impacted recently by the coronavirus pandemic. I would suggest you give the hospital a call to try and find out more about when the lumpectomy might take place.

I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have had a lumpectomy and that they will share with you how long it took them to have the surgery after the pre-op assessment. As you say, the waiting is the worst and feels never ending. I thought I would share with you some helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

    Best wishes,
