Left outer breast and armpit discomfort- lumpy breasts

Hi I have been experiencing some left outer breast and armpit discomfort recently and went to my GP who told me I have lumpy breasts and a possible cyst but for peace of mind she referred me to the Breast Clinic.  My referral has been red flagged by the Consultant and I have an appt next week.  I suffer greatly with health anxiety and can't help but think the worse.  I dont understand why it has been red flagged if my GP said she didnt think it was anything to worry about.  I am constantly googling things which I know is the last thing I should be doing. 

I have suffered from sore breasts, sensitive nipples and sometimes itchiness on and off for years and thought I possibly had Fibrocystic Breast Changes but the consultant red flagging my referral has really scared me.  I have 2 beautiful children and the thought of anything happening terrifies me.  Does anyone have any advice etc? Thanks x

    I'm sorry to hear that you have some concerns about your breast health at the moment. You did exactly the right thing in going to see your GP and it's good to hear that you already have an appointment at the breast clinic arranged. 

    We know that waiting for appointments can be a difficult time for many people and if you struggle with health anxiety as well then it can be harder. Please, please stop using Google to look for information. You will not find answers for your specific situation but it will certainly leave you feeling more anxious and worried. Instead, I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call and talking things through with them. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, support, and reassurance that they can ahead of your appointment next week. If you want to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040. 

    It may also help to try and keep in mind that the large majority of people seen at breast clinics are not diagnosed with cancer.
