MRI

Hi all,

I am just looking for similar experiences...

I just had a MRI scan today ( pelvic and rectal) and I just feel that it took very long, almost 60 minutes.

I know I have a rectal mass that is being investigated. If it took this long, does this mean bad news?

I left the appointment completely drained, physically and mentally...

Xx

  • Hi there Selyna!

So I'm no expert, but what I do know is that since no radiation is used for an MRI, it can take quite a long time for them too see the deeper regions, it's quite common for MRI scans to take upwards of 30-60 minutes! Especially around the abdominal area! Try your best not to worry, as that can be quite normal, MRI's produce the best image as well!

    Best of luck!

  • Hi Tace,

    Thank you for your words.

    I really appreciate it.

All the best to you too! Xx

  • My MRI took an hour it was checking my ovarian cysts. To assess if they had grown since my CT colonoscopy 8 weeks before. They said it would take about an hour to complete scan. My cysts were complex and l had them removed in October.
I hope all goes well for you are you having any other scans or tests l had colonoscopy ,mri, ct,and ultrasounds before I spoke with the surgeon re surgery.

    take care

  • Hi Susie,

    Thank you for your reply.

I had a transvaginal scan last June and also CA125 blood test then (all good) to investigate a lower abdominal lower pain on the left side that seem to come from my left ovary.

I also had FIT test to screen for bowel cancer (negative) as sometimes I felt constipated on the site the pain came from.

I felt better for a few months but now the pain is back, stronger and affecting also my lower back.

The GP now performed a rectal examination and found a mass behind the rectum wall. I paid for a private colonoscopy that confirmed that the colon is clear and I just and the MRI scan on the NHS.

Both colon consultants I've seen confirm that there is a mass but only the MRI will tell what it is. I don't seem to find similar situations with masses between the rectum and the vagina wall and feel very anxious...

The pain keeps me awake at night and unable to function properly.

    Xx
