Hello.
First time posting and its a long story, sorry but it may help someone if they have similar circumstances or hopefully give myself some insight too.
So I had a 6.5cm chocolate cyst in 2016 which was suspicious at first , so they called a mdm and I had the ca125 blood test and then sent for emergency surgery for removal .CA125 came back OK for ovarian cancer but above normal level for breast . They removed my ovary and cyst which came back benign but the op took 5 hours due to complications such as endometriosis diagnosed adhesions and needing bowel surgery etc (I was advised due to findings during this to have hysterectomy and that I was now infertile due to pid because half my appendix was left in which caused the severe infection, it was suppose to of all been removed 4 weeks before this due to rupture which had damaged both tubes and caused bad adheisions) I was in hospital 19 days on total.
I have a long history of female cancers and bowel cancer in the family so my mum was tested for the faulty gene around then which thankfully was negative.
I held off for as long as I could for a hysterectomy due to studying but booked in for it due to pain 18 months after the salpingo oopherectomy, aged 29 but surprisingly couldn't have it due to unexpectedly finding out actually I wasn't infertile like they said but was pregnant with twins (huge shock!!). I'm now 34 with 6 children = two sets of multiples although one baby but one passed away in nicu, so 5 children at home. Since delivery of the twins (nearly 4 years ago) I started to have heavy periods with my main issue being passing large clots - palm sized clots and around 12 clots each cycle which I can feel passing (sorry tmi!!) and cannot live daily life during my cycle due to fatigue , due to bleeding so heavy I constantly leak. I work in the community and have to change my 2 pads every hour and it impact on my work. Also I bleed -spot after sex, sex is painful so I try to avoid which my husband is mostly understanding. If I exercise to much / if i lose weight / if I walk to far I bleed . My heavy periods last 6 -7 days and are usually 21- 28 days but spot randomly inbetween .
Each month my periods have got worse and worse I went to the doctor for the 8th time who sent me for uss in 2020. All it showed was my ovary (only have one due to cyst) was 3 times the size it should be and no one knew why. The consultant couldn't shed no light on why it was so big and that was that , discharged me since I was sterilised and I refused the coil.
6 months ago still having issues eith my periods and my hb being now 94 ,I had another scan in Decemeber . Nothing was seen. I was sent to gynae again end of Feb this year who a new consultant looked at my previous scan from 2020 and realised not only was my ovary 3 times the size but my womb lining was 19mm and previously missed on the scan. So I was booked in for a urgent hysteroscopy. The hysteroscopy was this week, the doctor tried to tell me it was heavy periods. And said he would do a transvaginal scan anyway but not perform the hyst due to my age . But during scanning me shouted out omg, i'm shocked this hasn't been seen I wasn't expecting this ( the uss in December has no results and scan seems to of gone missing) he ended up doing the hysteroscopy and diagnosed a polyp which is 1.5cm and my womb lining was still just under 20mm. I now have to go back for removal of the polyp, he couldn't do it there and then and more biopsies too within the next 2 weeks. Everything I read online about a polyp that size and womb lining thst thick is not good news.
The consultant actually apologised over and over that this wasn't seen on the scans and that the womb lining was that thick and missed in 2020 and states but this is the reason for 2 years of heavy cycles and said he could not believe how in 2 scans this has been missed. He has put me as urgent and that I should have removal within 2 weeks. He showed us photos and explained that it was quite big for a polyp to have been missed. But of course I'm now left worrying and wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation. My ovary is still 3 times the size it should be, my womb lining is 19mm and the polyp 1.5cm. The bleeding is heavy and accompanied with severe back ache most days . However due to the complications in my last operation he does not want to do a hysterectomy basically said I'm a surgeons nightmare due to adhesions and other complications but won't rule out I won't need one , basically it's an option but let's wait and see what the biopsies show. I'm not a candidate for ablation.
Sorry for the long post but I'm now at the stage where I'm scared , so much has been missed before now and even he admitted he wasn't sure why I wasn't seen sooner due to womb thickness or how it was missed. But it's still as thick.
Thank you if you read all this all, I suppose I just needed to type it out for my sanity and ask for anyone who's experienced similar to please share their situation.
Thanks from a worried 34 year old who's losing sleep over this.
