Biopsy Results 6 weeks of waiting.

Going insane waiting for results.

I had a suspected HPV growth removed from my tonsil 6 weeks ago. It was sent to pathology testing. Report still hasn't been sent back to ENT.

I was wondering if anyone has ever waited 6 weeks or longer for results of any type of biopsy and be told it is benign? Or was it cancerous and what was the outcome.

Or has anyone had HPV removed and what was the outcome?

Sorry if these questions are too personal. I'm not able to think of much else for long today. And I don't want to be stressing family out by talking about it.

Monday the 21st - still no results. Found a mass of some sort front left of my neck, on Saturday. I am beyond stressed now!! I just need to know one way or another. The thought of leaving my son behind is breaking my heart. Trying to figure how that will work. Then I feel stupid for being so morbid. Going round in circles

Tia for any input. X

  • Hi Angela

Six weeks is an awful long time .  Have you contacted your GP to see if there is an update with them as all results end up with your GP .  I know they say no news is good news but it would be nice for your mind to be put at ease.  I had a biospy and was automatically booked for  result appt 2 weeks later (next Tues) .  If I were you I would ask for a telephone appt with GP just to see if they have info there

    All the best x

  • Hi Jo.

Thank you so much for responding. I have called ENT one a week today being the most recent. Report still not back. I have been calling by GP now and again too, just incase. But the keep saying the report will be sent to the consultant, and the consultant will be the one to contact me.

I hope your results are OK and you are well! Can I ask what type of biopsy you have had?

I have had biopsies taken from breasts various times, and they always came back quick.

    Thank you x

  • Hi Angela

I had a biopsy under general anaesthetic to a mass / lesion to my soft palate and a MRI scan a few days before that.. by the time i was discharged from day surgery an appt was already set for my return in two weeks time .

I am preparing for the worst but it has and still is mental torture being in this limbo phase .

You would think they would divulge to you if 6 weeks was  the norm for your type of biopsy , was yours done under GA?

  • Oh I'm glad things are moving quickly for you, but it is a huge worrie not knowing.

His secretary just keeps saying pathology are really behind and have a lot of staff off with covid.

I was refered for nose issues, swollen tounge, tiny lump and whole within my cheek.. When he saw a growth on my tonsil, he said he could arrange to bring me back and having it removed under GA but advised that I let him do it there and then under Local. So I got him to take it out then.

I really hope I don't have to wait much longer.

Tho my consultant only works wed and Thurs. So as report wasn't in today. The earliest he would get to it to be able to sign it off and and pass results on to me is next wed!!

  • That would have been my response too - whip it out - wish they had done that for me . As it turns out  my body rejected all the stitches within 48Hrs  of the Op and i was left with large open wound in the roof of my mouth.  When I rang ENT under emergency and told them they said due to area of the OP it could not be simply fixed and would need GA again , so they said it will heal up on its own with time but yikes , its not been fun , painful , and still can only eat soup and being able to see above the roof of my mouth is horrid  (tmi lol sorry)

I assume they will give you the outcome on the phone as i really do hope they dont wait for reaults and then book you for a visit .

What did they say about the other issues you had ?  Or are you in the dark on those too ?

  • Hi Angelak563. Sorry to hear what you're currently going through. Wanted to reply as I'm going through a similar thing.

I had a biopsy performed on my tonsil 4th March. The consultant was optimistic it would be normal and said she would put it through as urgent due to family history and other symptoms and told me it would take a couple of days and assuming negative she would call with the results. It's now been over two weeks and not heard anything back. I felt quite reassured by her optimism at first but the wait is making me now slightly anxious. I understand exactly how you feel.

I'm sorry you've been waiting so long. Please keep us updated. I hope you get good news when you receive the result.

  • Hi Jo, how are you?  That does sound awful, I do hope it is healing quickly though! I hope you have been coping OK with the wait!

Sorry I hadn't wrote back sooner. Tried to switch off from it. Hasn't worked. I found a mass at the front of my neck on Saturday morning, which has me freeking out even more than I was. Still no results. But I'v made an app with the GP for tomorrow morning.

  • Hi Riverdale,

Thank you for responding! Yip the wait is horrid. Hopefully you don't have much longer to be told and it's a positive outcome for you.

I still haven't had any results yet. I found a mass/lump/inflammation (not really sure how to describe it) on the front to the left of my neck. Same side the growth was cut out from. I'm feeling a bit more relaxed tonight. But these last few days have been really ruff, my anxiety has been through the roof. I have the gp tomorrow to get checked out.

    Hope you hear soon.

  • Hi Angela. Hope you are doing ok. I wondered how you had gotten on at the doctors and if you had received your biopsy results?

    All the best

  • Hey Riverdale,

Still to biopsy results, they have a big back log. The gp said she wasn't concerned about my neck. Bloods taken. Hopefully answers soon.

How are things with you? X
