I've had thyroid cancer and have quite a bit of reassurance I can offer. Firstly, as I kept chanting to myself while awaiting diagnosis, "thyroid nodules are common, thyroid cancer is rare." I think something like 25% or more of people have thyroid nodules and only about 5% or  something are cancer. The odds are, it's completely benign.

And even if it is cancer, which the odds are against, it's probably not what you are thinking. The most common form of thyroid cancer has a near 100% survival rate among younger people (where younger means under about 50). And it's highly unlikely that you would need anything like chemotherapy. It really is just a matter of removing your thyroid. I had mine out and was back at work after a month. They also removed 57 lymph nodes as there was some spread. And I'd probably have been back at work sooner except I'm a teacher so really need to be able to turn my head quickly and for my voice to be 100%.

I take tablets to replace my thyroid, which just means I take a couple of tablets each morning.

Thanks. To be honest, I was back to more or less normal not long after the operation. I do still get a bit of tingling in my neck occasionally, but that's as bad as it gets.

Sounds like the cyst is pretty small anyway. Mine was 10.5cm though the cancerous part was "only" 6.7cm.
