Request a mammogram.

Hi all,

For around 3 month I've had pain in my breast. This has become more consistent, my boob is also swollen and feels heavy. My nipple has also become inverted, although reacts to stimulation and cold.

The dr wants me to take antibiotics in case of an infection but I have no signs of an infection and like I say pain started 3months ago.

Am I over reacting to push for a mammogram?

Thanks

    Hi Flossy,

A very warm welcome to our forum. It is unusual to have pain with breast cancer, which is probably why your GP wants to try antibiotics first of all. If these don't improve your symptoms, I am sure that she will then refer you on for further investigation. You do not say what age you are - cancer is less common in younger people. Most people under 40 do not have a mammogram, as their breasts tend to be too dense to show up clearly on mammogram.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • My GP over a period of months repeated to me that breast cancer does not cause pain. I was falsely reassured. My advice from my own experience would be to insist on it being investigated. I am also going to advise my daughter to pay for regular mammograms from a younger age than the NHS screening programme.

i am not wanting to cause alarm - it is probably absolutely nothing- but now that I have breast cancer I realise how common it is and how many women have significant delays in diagnosis.

also - Liz O'Riordoj on Twitter / Instagram has 3 videos on proper checking of the breasts

hope this helps. Please don't worry in the meantime but do get checked. Even if it is breast cancer the treatments are easier if started early.
