Clueless!

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some advice regarding a friend of mine. He is 67 and in general good health.

He started with his legs aching 7 months ago and has been back and fourth to the GPS with everything clear, checking for clots, blood tests ect all ok.

With his recent blood test he was sent to a heamotologist and it the last week he has been told over the phone that his blood contains 22.5% protein and they are arranging a CAT scan and bone marrow scan and told him if he feels unwell to go to A&e. It's all overwhelming and terrifying for him.

Has anyone any idea what the protein in the blood means and why the sudden urgency. He is terrified and with all respect to him he isn't good at communicating on the phone so didn't ask any questions. The research I have done leads to multiple myeloma but I am clueless, could it be this?

Any honest answers or a guide of what all this urgency means would be so much appreciated then I can help him.

Thank you, Sara

  • Hello Sara

I'm sorry to hear that your friend is dealing with some ongoing health concerns and that he's now waiting on further tests. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what may be causing his symptoms.

Unfortunately, we're not able to say what may be causing these pains and abnormal blood results but it sounds as if his Dr's are trying to get to the bottom of things quickly.

If your friend is feeling overwhelmed by things then I wonder if it may be possible for you, or someone else, to attend appointments with him for support. It's worth talking to him about this and seeing how he feels. You may find that he's grateful to have someone there who can make notes on the information that he's given and help ask any questions at the appointment.

I do hope that he has some answers soon.

    Best wishes,
